This week, we recognize Pentecost, and as Christians, we celebrate receiving the Holy Spirit. After Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples gathered together in obedience, prayer, and expectation as they waited on the promise He had spoken of. Suddenly, the sound of a mighty rushing wind filled the house, tongues of fire rested upon them, and they were filled with the Holy Spirit. What began as a small gathering became a powerful movement as the disciples were transformed with boldness, authority, and power to share the Gospel.
The Holy Spirit is a gift to each of us, and through Him we received three powerful things: His presence, our posture, and His power.
When we have His presence, we can live with confidence knowing God’s promise remains true: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Through the Holy Spirit, we are reminded that we are never abandoned, forgotten, or without His guidance and power.
As the disciples gathered on one accord in unity, they modeled the posture of what the Church should be today. If we believe Jesus is soon to return, we should remain expectant, unified, and prayerful while exhibiting His power.
In Acts 1:4, Jesus instructed the disciples not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for “the promise of the Father” ..the coming of the Holy Spirit. They remained in prayer, unity, and expectation until the promise was fulfilled.
Maybe you are waiting on other promises to come to pass in your life. Don’t leave His presence and don’t stray from the place where you fellowship with other believers and pray. Stay expectant and watch the promises in your life come to pass.
We should seek to lay hands on the sick and see them recover, spread the message of deliverance through Jesus, and most importantly, instead of pointing fingers at each other, point others to Christ.
